Heart-Centered Community Practice Group
The purpose of the Heart-Centered Community Building Practice Group is to continue learning and integrating NVC so it's easier to use it in your life. The emphasis is on practicing, not on talking “about” NVC. Another benefit is the sense of warm connections and caring that tends to develop as we experience listening to one another with our hearts and expressing what's important to us. This level of presence and connection often leads to life-long friendships, community and a deep sense of mattering and belonging.

What happens in a practice group?
  • Opening (examples: poem, reading, centering or check-ins)
  • Review the chapter – Reflections and highlights
  • Demonstration and exercise – Work in dyads, triads, or whole groups with an exercise or practice
  • Harvest -- Reflections, gifts received, review

The session may include short instructions, questions & answers, exercises & games, role-plays, giving and/or receiving empathy for individual people who want it, and video clips of Marshall Rosenberg leading classes.

We also practice using NVC to navigate any decisions or issues that come up in the group itself.

We will use the following books, which students are asked to purchase and read the first chapter by the first session and to participate. Links are provided to order them and may also be found elsewhere.

  1. Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life 3rd Ed., by Marshall B. Rosenberg, Ph.D.
  2. Nonviolent Communication Companion Workbook 2nd Ed., by Lucy Leu

 Zoom link provided upon registration.

*We highly recommend that participants have completed an NVC Foundations Workshop or equivalent training, in order to contribute and get the most out of this practice group.
